[ A person without dreams and goals, it’s like driving into a mist where you could only see the two meters distance of the road in front of you. There was no way you could give it a go if you were moving forward slowly and trembling. Never hoped that the mist in front of you would disappear by itself, not to mentioned when after you turned thirty years old. ]
This book was full of ruthless warnings with various real life examples, personal experiences and metaphors, that the author used it to describe the current living attitudes of young people nowadays. The author also wrote about the tragedies of those young people who continued to live with such frivolous state of life without dreams and goals in the next five or ten years, not to mentioned that when they had reached their 30s.
If you had a pet at home, or perhaps you used to have a pet at home. You might try to ask yourself, had you ever wished that you could live a pet’s life because it didn’t have to work hard for a living? Another question to ask yourself, would you rather to reborn as a pet cat or a pet dog if there was an afterlife? In fact, there were no right and wrong answers. This was simply a matter of choice.
The author described young people that had no dreams and goals in their lives as a dreamer who lived in a dog cage as they had no rights to enjoy freedom despite of the comfort living conditions. For instance, a person who was comfortable with a stable income, filled his/her leisure time after work without purpose, then realized his/her bank account balance still remained the same after a month has passed. After all, how long could you live with such lifestyle?
I considered myself as a sensible person who had not live in vain during my 25 years of life. However, I realized something after reading this book: although I might not have wasted my days in the past five years, neither did I take a good use of my days to add value to myself nor improve myself. Five years equalled to 60 months or 1825 days. However, I found myself still stood at where I started, stuck with self-righteous and thought that I could live a life of ease.
The author stated that people often misunderstood the true meaning of contentment. I thought that contentment and happiness were about being get by in life and having a simple life. In fact, it was simply a phenomenon that called “sour grapes, sweet lemons”.
[The “Sweet Lemons” phenomenon referred to the rationalisation of people who used feeble but seemingly plausible arguments to justify their dissatisfaction or reduce unpleasant feelings; it was similar to a person who insisted that a sour lemon was tasted sweet.]
Everything in the world had its positive and negative sides. Undeniably, we tended to magnify the positive side of an event and overlook the rooms for self-improvement. I had misunderstood the meaning of contentment and left my five years of time in idle all the while. What a horrible fact that I had left my precious five years of youth in idle!
[Where Do You See Yourself at After 30 Years Old?]
Would you rather choose to stay passive, follow the crowd and drifted along by the changing environment; or would you be proactive to decide your future directions?
As I spoke for myself, I would like to see myself stood right there after 30 years old!
