What is the origin of Life Education?
Life Education began in the 1960s in the U.S.A. to address issues such as drug use, suicide, homicide, sexual crimes, and other life-threatening problems. During this era, Life Education became widely recognized as an essential component of education for both children and adults.
Once, there was a story told: A man saw a picture in a magazine featuring a sailor's arm tattooed with the words "hold tight." This image sparked the man's curiosity, leading him to inquire of the captain, "Your ship is renowned, and your sailors are reputed for their knowledge, skills, and training. Why do all your sailors have their arms tattooed with the words 'hold tight'?"
The captain responded, "You're correct. My sailors are well-trained and skilled, but regardless of their expertise, if they don't hold tight to the ship's ropes and rigging, they risk perishing despite their knowledge and skills when a storm strikes."
The sailor's "hold tight" tattoo symbolizes the need to be physically and mentally strong. In life, beyond acquiring knowledge and skills, having direction, values, and a life purpose are crucial for overcoming challenges. Without clear direction, life values, and a sense of purpose, individuals may easily give up, lose direction, or withdraw when faced with life challenges.
Conventional education often emphasizes vocational skills and related knowledge, neglecting the importance of teaching life skills, values, and knowledge. This neglect can result in children lacking the ability to discover their life direction and purpose. This is perilous as it distorts life values and priorities, leading to a deeper materialistic trap. Consequently, many individuals in our society belittle themselves or harm others due to an unclear outlook on life and poor life values.
Apart from learning knowledge and skills, Life Education instils life values and guides the exploration of life's purpose. Therefore, Azon is committed to developing this educational philosophy, guiding children to enhance their attitudes, capabilities, concepts, and knowledge through Life Education programmes and activities. With the aspiration that every child learns and understands that there's something more significant than mere success, Azon's Life Education programs lay the groundwork for children to learn and be fully prepared for a fulfilling life.
