In this era of advanced technology, the concerns of learning, behavioural and emotional problems faced by children have increased. The urgency to seek therapy is greater now as parents are feeling helpless of their children with learning disabilities or developmental delays. Occupational therapy, sensory integration therapy, and speech therapy are common interventions to enhance a child's daily functioning. In addition to such therapies, it is necessary to bridge the learned skills with the situations and events that occur throughout the daily living for holistic development.

A multi-dimensional approach consisting of various interventions and learning plans is essential to support a child in holistic development. Consequently, the Child Development and Learning Intervention Programme (CDLIP) is an individualised plan that combines the nature of traditional play and kinaesthetic activities with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. CDLIP specifically targets and intervenes in the challenges faced by the child, allowing the child to experience the therapeutic effect of learning by doing. Children learn best when they are calm and content, in which these emotions can be seen while they are engaged in games or activities. CDLIP is closely related to traditional play and kinaesthetic activity, which helps unleash the children's true potential and self-confidence in their growth.

Taiwanese scholars suggested that the integration of games and kinaesthetic activities with physical, psychological, and social components could enhance a child's cognitive, social, behavioural, and emotional development. CDLIP uses play and kinaesthetic activities to support the child to develop emotional regulation, enhance communication skills, improve task initiation, and boost self-confidence.

Besides that, the founder of CDLIP includes the spiritual component to achieve a balance between the body, mind, and spirit. Many researchers found that the symptoms of a child, such as hyperactivity and inattention, may root from not only bodily or neurological dysfunctions but also psychological factors such as anxiety, panic, anger, etc. For example, a young child who is incapable to communicate verbally of their emotions may express through disruptive or inappropriate behaviours. The spiritual component available in CDLIP helps the child to develop a positive mind and behaviour while overcoming the obstacles and challenges throughout their growth.
