It was written in the book that people pursued happiness throughout their lives. However, most of them were lost in their ways in finding the true happiness.

They believed that material possessions and power would bring them happiness. However, Master Hsing Yun stated the different levels of happiness while a materialistic life simply contributed to the first level of happiness. People mostly remained at the material pursuits and rarely to move further in seeking a higher level of happiness. Master Hsing Yun shared in his book that in order to gain the true happiness, we had to discover our real-self, develop compassion and a loving heart through our daily practices.

Thus, Master Hsing Yun hoped to encourage us to accumulate merits and develop good affinity with others through charitable events.

Master Hsing Yun also pointed out that we were capable to take care of our health problems or lost belongings by seeking solutions with quick awareness. However, we were lacking of the spiritual awakening, hence, we were lost and confused with the purpose of life. Master Hsing Yun also mentioned that the hardest disease to be cured would be materialism possessions, as it made us became a slave who worked for money and fame. Hence, Master Hsing Yun encouraged that we should have the capability to “gain” as well as the capability to “lose”. Consequently, we would be able to maintain our peace of mind in the times of prosperity or adversity.
