Drama and geriatric psychology
Drama therapy can treat many types of mental illness, such as depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder and anxiety disorders, as well as help prevent dementia in old age.
- Drama has a "healing" effect
- Theatrical performance as a medium
- Release repressed emotions and events
While watching and talking about the drama, the elderly may experience different emotions, such as regret, dissatisfaction, sadness, etc., meanwhile, they can relieve their depressed emotions by watching the drama. - Self-Reintegration
When elderly people release their negative emotions such as sadness and anger, they are more able to readjust themselves when they encounter unpleasant events in real life. - Personality development and psychological healing
The elderly people are able to learn about themselves again after adjustments.
- Roleplay
Role-play with some friends in a part of a play. Through role-playing, we can release past emotions. - Drama viewing/book club
