Activity Introduction
a Life Enrichment Camp was held at Sekinchan D’Menara Homestay on the 2nd to 4th December 2018.
Acceptance and respect
By joining the camp, children left their comfortable life and had the opportunity to experience the Malay Kampung’s lifestyle. The children have to step out of their comfort zone to adapt into the kampung lifestyle, such as bathing without heaters, sleeping without air conditioner, eating with their hand, playing the kompang (a Malay traditional instrument), etc. Some of the children were uncomfortable at first, but as they took the first step to try, they began to find joy through these activities, and gain understanding and appreciation towards the differences in lifestyle and culture.
Teamwork and Mannerism
Along our 3D2N journey, we were blessed to have the help of the local youths to join alongside with our teachers to facilitate the children through challenges. Despite of cultural and language differences, these obstacles were slowly overcome, in which the children and local youths were able to work together as a team to participate and complete challenging activities throughout the camp. The children practiced good teamwork and mannerism within their group by greeting and encouraging one another, while working together as a team. Such behaviours were not only practiced within their team, but have also extended into their daily living in this 3D2N journey, in which they practiced greeting their teachers and elders around, and keeping the homestay clean.
Conclusion
During these three days, the children have experienced different emotions and have overcome different challenges. The joys and sorrows of life are plentiful in the future. We hope that the children will continue to apply these values and lessons learned into their daily living and walk through a journey of their own.
