Children often struggle with their academic studies, for example, “I don’t like this subject, it’s too hard!”, “I always don’t get it” or “I failed my exam, again”. These scenarios happen around us all the time. Nowadays, parents often provide direct assistance to help children overcome challenging situations. Otherwise, punishment are given to the children. When a child achieves good/poor grades, parents may verbally express your feelings toward the children’s hard works and efforts. Alternatively, parents may express their feelings through body language, such as comforting the child’s emotions with hugging or holding hands with eye contact, so that the child is aware of his or her own growth. Parents shall always remember that, our children’s constant growth is more important than their grades.
Recently, anxiety and depression has becoming to be more common in young children due to various stress from different aspects. In fact, young children are more afraid of the expectations toward their exam performance instead of the examination itself. Children usually generate stress when they did not reach the expectations. Therefore, an effective communication between parent and children is essential to create emotional safety that allows for growth and healthy development in our children, as well as help our children to cultivate a positive attitude in dealing with stress and bounce back from difficulties.
